Game's Market RISIN' UP
As the completion of the construction process draws near, everyone is getting anxious and more excited. Customers are calling, anticipating our opening for the holiday season, and we are trying our best to meet their expectations.
Progress has not met our schedule, but things are moving along nonetheless. There are two major infrastructure items that are remaining: electrical and mechanical/refrigeration. The interior of the building is substantially finished, with only installation of a few doors and and a couple of small interior structures like a service desk remaining.
Once the elctrical service is complete, it will be possible to connect and test the refrigeration and set a more firm opening date. At this point we still can not be very precise with an opening date, but the most optimistic date we can give is the week of Thanksgiving.
As the opening date becomes more clear, the web site will be updated to reflect the most accurate information we have.
On February 16, 2007, Game's Farmers Market was destroyed by a fire caused by an electrical short in the attic of the building. Fortunately, the fire started in the middle of the night when no one was in the building, and no one was hurt by the fire. Despite the best efforts of the Newport News Fire Department which was on the scene very quickly, everything was lost.
With the complete loss of building and contents presenting enormous obstacles, plans are nevertheless going forward for the rebuilding of the store.
Most of the summer was spent planning, with little visual results for encouragement. It's probably safe to assume that many had significant doubts whether a building would ever begin rising from the empty lot, but the end of the summer brought evidence that hopes were about to be realized.
Take a look a the photos of the construction progress for a glimpse of the progress that has taken place over the last few weeks. It it REMARKABLE!
